To move VPOP3 to a new PC you should go through the following steps:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PaulSmith
or some other variant.
If the new PC's IP address is different from the old PC's address, you may also have to go around the client computers changing the email client settings to point to the new mail server. You may also need to check the IP Address to Bind
to setting on the Services → General
page, and the Access Restrictions
on the various Services → xxxx
pages.
In step (2f) above, you may need to make changes to the registry before importing it onto the new PC.
To edit the registry, you can open the .REG file in Notepad, make the changes below, and then save the file.
If you are changing the directory where VPOP3 is installed (eg from c:\vpop3
to d:\vpop3
) then you may also need to change the directory settings in VPOP3. So, you can search through the .REG file for the old path name, and replace it with the new path name. (Note that in .REG files, a '\' is indicated by '\\' (double-backslash). Ensure you continue to use '\\' when editing the .REG file.)
If you are moving VPOP3 from a 32 bit version of Windows to a 64 bit version you need to edit the .REG file to take account of the different location where 64 bit Windows stores registry entries for 32 bit software like VPOP3.
Edit → Replace

If you are upgrading the version of VPOP3, eg 1.3.0 to 5.0, or VPOP3 Standard to VPOP3 Enterprise, simply install the version you want to use (the version you are upgrading to) at step (3a) in the sequence above. In this case, you should also check for any possible issues with Windows/other software - see the installing VPOP3 topic for details.
Make sure you install the 32 bit version of VPOP3 when upgrading from a version earlier than v5, do not upgrade straight to the 64 bit version or you will lose some data.
If you want, we can do this move for you via remote access. The charge for us to do that is currently £40 (+ VAT). If you want us to do this, make sure that it is possible to copy files between the PCs on your network (or have copied all the necessary files beforehand). Copying the files over the Internet to our office and then back again is not feasible given the large amounts of data that can be present.
