You should use the 'Offline' tab in the VPOP3 Message Archive settings to tell VPOP3 to move old messages into a ZIP file. You can then store this ZIP file somewhere safe in case you need to refer to it in the future. (If you know you won't want to ever refer to these old messages, you could just delete the ZIP file, but storage costs nowadays are so cheap, we'd recommend keeping it, just in case).
